Tobacco-Free Campus

Tobacco Free Campus Policy 2.09

Enforcement of Tobacco Policy

First Offense

Any student observed smoking or using tobacco products, including electronic devises will be asked to show their student identification card. The employee will explain the college’s tobacco-free policy and the possible consequences for violating the policy, and will file a report with the campus police/security. The campus police/security will keep a record of violations.

Second Offense

Employees will follow the procedures identified in “First Offense.” When the campus police/security determine that this is the second reported offense for a student, the campus police/security will submit the report to the director of student services. The director of student services will contact the student warning him/her that this is the second violation of the tobacco policy. The student will receive a written reprimand. The director of student services may invoke additional sanctions, as appropriate. Additional violations may result in harsher sanctions.

Third Offense

Employees will follow the procedures identified in “First Offense.” When the campus police/security determine that this is the third reported offense for a student, the campus police/security will submit the report to the director of student services. The director of student services will meet with the student and determine an appropriate sanction. A student may appeal the decision by following the student grievance procedure.
