Procedure 8.01.03 - Hours of Operation and Building/Campus Access


The President will establish the business, operating and closed hours for the College to allow for the accomplishment of the College’s mission, and the conduct of necessary activities, and to ensure the safety of employees and the protection of college property.  The President or his/her designee will communicate the business, operating, and closed hours to faculty, staff, students and the general public.

  1. Unless modified by the President or his/her designee, the College’s business, operating, and closed hours will be:
    1. Business Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Thursday, and 8:00 am – 3:00 pm on Friday.
    2. Operating Hours: 6:00 am – 11:00 pm, Monday – Sunday
    3. Closed Hours: 11:00pm – 6:00am, Monday – Sunday
  2. Summer business hours will be determined by the President or his/her designee and will be communicated as early as practicable.
  3. During business, operating, and closed hours, college buildings and the campus will be available for scheduled classes and other activities as scheduled by the college. Other availability is as follows:

  4. The College reserves the right to limit the access of college employees and the public to the campus and buildings as deemed necessary for the safe operation of the College.
  5. College employees’ access to buildings during operating hours (outside of business hours) will be governed as follows:
    Employee access to their office, classroom, or work area during operating hours (outside of business hours) for employees with a building code Employees may enter the building themselves, but must notify the security guard of their presence in the building.
    Employee access to their office, classroom, or work area during operating hours (outside of business hours) for employees without a building code Employees must contact the security guard on duty to gain access to the appropriate building.
    Employee access to a building that does not include their office, classroom, or work station during operating hours (outside of business hours) Employees must receive written authorization from their vice president / executive dean.  The written authorization can be a SCC e-mail from the vice president / executive dean with the time and date of the approved access.  Employees must request access from the security guard on duty when they arrive on campus and must present the written authorization to the security guard on duty before gaining access to the building.
    Employees who want access to the campus when the college is closed Employees who must receive written authorization from the college president or his/her designee.  The written authorization can be a SCC e-mail from the president with the time and date of the approved access.  Employees must request access from the security guard on duty when they arrive on campus and must present the written authorization to the security guard on duty before gaining access to the building.
  6. Authorization for Admission to Buildings Outside of Normal Business Hours for Students and Visitors:
    1. Student and visitor access to buildings outside of business hours will be limited to scheduled classes and other activities scheduled by the College.
    2. For access outside of business hours, a visitor(s)/student(s) must be accompanied by an employee. The accompanying employee must request written authorization from their vice president / executive dean for a visitor(s)/student(s) to enter the building with the employee outside of business hours.  Written authorization from the president or his/her designee is required for access when the College is closed.  The written authorization can be a SCC e-mail from the vice president / executive dean with the time and date of the approved access.  Employees must request access from security guard on duty when they arrive on campus and must present the written authorization to the security guard on duty before gaining access to the building.
    3. In all instances, the employee should remain with the visitor(s)/student(s) while they are in the building.
    4. The employee shall be responsible for the equipment in the area and for the activities and conduct of the visitor(s)/student(s) while they are in the building.
    5. A visitor(s)/student(s) will not be permitted access to laboratories or classrooms containing equipment that creates safety and security concerns unless an appropriate instructor or technician is present.
  7. Authorization for Building Codes
    1. Requests for building codes must be submitted by the employee’s vice president / executive dean to the Vice President of Administrative Services.
    2. The Vice President of Administrative Services will maintain a list of all employees with building codes and the buildings to which they have access.
    3. Employees cannot share building codes with other employees or any other individuals. The sharing of building codes will result in the loss of building access and additional disciplinary action as warranted.
