Procedure 5.42.01 - Service Awards

Eligibility

For the purposes of this program, employee service refers to employment at the College in a regular full-time or regular part-time status. Employees are eligible to receive the appropriate service award for every 5 years of service, beginning with 1 year of service.

Creditable service includes full-time regular service and full-time temporary service if it is contiguous with full-time regular service. Part-time regular service would also be recognized as such. Service in a part-time temporary or adjunct capacity is not creditable towards a service award.

Full-Time Service

Full-time, regular employment with the College is cumulative. If an employee who is in a full-time, regular position leaves the College and later is reemployed in a full-time regular position, the length of both periods of employment shall be added together in order to determine eligibility. Employees hired in a full-time, temporary position will receive creditable service provided that the employee is moved into a full-time regular position in a timeframe that is contiguous with the full-time temporary service.

Faculty serving in nine (9) month contracts will be given a full year of creditable service for award purposes.

Part-Time Service

Part-time, regular employment with the College is cumulative. Employees who separate from part-time, regular employment and return to a part-time regular position will receive credit for prior eligible service. Part-time, temporary service is not used in calculating full-time service.

Awards

Service awards for employee achieving one-year of service to the College will be recognized each year.  A framed certificate, signed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the President will be presented during the All Employees meeting in August.

When an employee reaches one of the five-year service milestones as outlined above, he or she will be recognized by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the President at the All Employees meeting in August with a certificate.  Five-year employees will also be invited to attend the luncheon in Spring hosted by the College.  Award recipients will be excused from work with pay to attend the five-year service awards ceremony.  Leadership Team members and supervisors are encouraged to attend.

Employees celebrating 10 years of service and above will receive a stipend based on their years of service.

10 years – $100
15 years – $150
20 years – $200
25 years – $250
30+ years (5 year increments) – $300

Administration

Recognition of employees will begin in the 2018-2019 academic year. The Service Awards Program shall be coordinated by the Human Resources department in collaboration with the President’s Office. Each semester the Human Resources department will generate a Years of Service report from personnel records data to identify employees who will reach a milestone during the upcoming semester. After making any necessary additions or corrections, the President will approve the listing of Service Award recipients.

Any exceptions to this procedure must be approved by the College Leadership Team.
