Students Receive Scholarship for High Demand Job Training

Monday, April 18th, 2022

McKenly High and Amber Rogers are Spring 2022 recipients of the Christa A. Lynch Scholarship. Both are enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at SCC.

Rogers is a graduate of South Columbus High School and High is a graduate of West Columbus High School.

Both High and Rogers are in clinical at Columbus Regional Healthcare, and both have signed contracts to work there after graduation.

“The job demand is extremely high and is expected to increase by 11% by 2030, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics,” said Dawn Williamson, MLT Director. “Also, our surrounding hospitals are desperate and calling Me for MLTs to hire. We need students to fill these positions in an amazing career.”

Christa Lynch, a May 2019 graduate of SCC, established a scholarship for students in the MLT program at SCC. During her time at SCC, Lynch was a wife and mother working full-time in the phlebotomy community from Brunswick County. “I felt the scholarship I received and the quality of instruction was so impactful I wanted to pay it forward,” Lynch said.

The Medical Laboratory Technology program is enrolling students now. Students can enroll in MLT-110 which starts Summer 2022. Interested students can contact Student Services to enroll at (910) 788-6279 or stop by campus.

Financial assistance is available to help students pay for college. For information about financial assistance, call the Financial Aid office at (910) 788-6214. There is a great support team ready to help you identify ways to pay for college.
