The Home Depot Foundation and SkillsUSA have been busy awarding scholarships for National Signing Day 2021.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2021, they awarded Columbus Career & College Academy student, Annayeli Aguayo-Dionisio, a $5,000 scholarship.

SkillsUSA’s National Signing Day recognizes the next generation of students in the building and construction trades. The program granted a total of $30,000 in scholarships towards each student’s trade school tuition. Annayelli was one of six students selected in the entire Southeastern United States.

“We’re thrilled to help these students achieve their dreams as they enter the building and construction trades,” said Shannon Gerber, Executive Director, The Home Depot Foundation. “The opportunity to partner with SkillsUSA and Klein Tools to provide support to the next generation of tradespeople is incredibly rewarding.”

After Annayelli thanked everyone in attendance she proudly held up an SCC Rams shirt to declare she was committing to Southeastern Community College.

“I couldn’t be prouder of this student. She has excelled in a male-dominated field and she has left a legacy already,” said Dr. Chris English, SCC President. “I’m even more excited that she has chosen Southeastern Community College as her next step in education to earning a degree as she continues training to become workforce ready.”

A final surprise came when Mr. Tom McLamb presented Annayelli with a gift and announced she was the CTE Student of the Month.
