Southeastern Community College (SCC) celebrated over 30 students on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU), through the member-funded SECU Foundation, funded scholarships totaling $18,000 to SCC for over 30 SCC students.
The SECU Foundation established the “People Helping People” two-year scholarship program to assist North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) students in achieving academic success. The members of State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) take an active role in assisting organizations and communities across North Carolina and truly believe in “People Helping People!” There are 116 scholarships valued at up to $5,000 each. Each North Carolina Community College will receive two (2) scholarships each academic year.
These scholarships are distributed semi-annually in two payments: fall semester, $1,250 per student; and spring semester, $1,250 per student for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters. The Scholarship Selection Committee will consider students who best exemplify the membership philosophy of the Credit Union, “People Helping People”, and have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.

In 2018, SECU Foundation introduced the SECU Bridge to Career Program. This program is available to all 58 North Carolina Community Colleges. Designed to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities, SECU Bridge to Career Program will fund $500 scholarships to be awarded to eligible students at each of the 58 NC Community College campuses. SECU Bridge to Career Program focuses on assisting unemployed and underemployed adults, military veterans, and members of the National Guard with marketable job skills that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities. Participants must be enrolled in a program that leads to a state recognized or industry supported credential.
