Award Winning Author and Columbus County Native Coming to SCC

Award-winning author Jason Mott will be at Southeastern Community College on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. in the SCC Auditorium. A reception and book signing will follow in the Lobby of the college’s A-Building.

Mott received the National Book Award for fiction in 2021. He’s a Bestselling author, Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction Winner, Pushcart Prize nominee, NAACP Image Award nominee, and Carnegie Medals For Excellence Longlist nominee. His poetry and fiction has appeared in various literary journals.  Entertainment Weekly listed him as one of their 10 “New Hollywood: Next Wave” people to watch.

He is the author of two poetry collections: We Call This Thing Between Us Love and “…hide behind me…”  He is the author of four novels:  The ReturnedThe Wonder of All ThingsThe Crossing, and Hell Of A Book.

The Return was his first novel published in 2013. This book was adapted for television by Brad Pitt as Resurrection. Others of his books include The Crossing, The Wonder of all Things, The First, and most recently, Hell of a Book in 2021.

Mott is a Columbus County native of Bolton, NC. He graduated from East Columbus High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Fiction and a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry. He is currently a faculty member of the Creative Writing Department of UNCW.

Major sponsors include Friends of Rube McCray Memorial Library (RMML), Southeastern Community College Foundation, the Literary Committee of the Reuben Brown House Preservation Society, and private individuals. RMML Waccamaw Book Club initiated the program.
