Build a Tiny House in the Construction Academy

Thursday, July 8th, 2021

Individuals interested in exploring and developing careers in construction can enroll in the Construction Academy to obtain hands-on training. The program will include training in air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and other construction trade essentials.

SCC’s Construction Academy will kick off with training in Carpentry starting in the Fall semester. Registered students will have the opportunity to learn basic construction skills while working together to start the process of building an amazing tiny house.

The Academy is perfect for individuals interested in gaining the skills they need and joining the workforce, starting their own business, or for individuals looking for personal enrichment classes.

The Tiny House project is new to SCC and open to anyone who is interested in making history with this exciting and rewarding project. At the end of the Tiny House build, the college will sell the house to an interested buyer and the funding will be used to support future construction academy building projects on the academic program.

Eligible students can enroll in the Construction Academy for FREE through scholarship and financial assistance opportunities. To secure funding, students should register early and apply for financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded as long as funding is available.

Classes in the Construction Academy will be taught during the evening.

For more information about the Construction Academy or timeline for the tiny house, call SCC at (910) 788-6397

Enrollment is open for the Fall semester at SCC. Classes start on August 16. Students can enroll with Valerie Register at (910) 788-6397.
