Southeastern Community College’s Fine and Performing Arts Series announced its first performances in the fall of 1966. In 2002, the series was renamed the Richard F. Burkhardt Fine and Performing Arts Series in memory of Burkhardt for his leadership in the musical and cultural enrichment of the community. The series, funded by the SCC Foundation, Inc., strives to increase cultural arts opportunities for area citizens at affordable ticket prices. A wide variety of offerings includes theatre arts, music, and dance performances. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling the SCC Foundation at (910) 642-7141, ext. 260 or 320. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Richard F. Burkhardt Fine and Performing Arts Series is made possible through the generous support of the SCC Foundation. Founded in 1968, the Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes and encourages support of Southeastern Community College.

A professional modern dance company, Black Box Dance Theatre (BBDT) was co-founded in 2014 by Michelle Pearson, former principal dancer with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, and eight dance artists, including Alfredo Hurtado, post-9/11 veteran and Purple Heart Wounded Warrior, Natalie Morton, and Steven James Rodriguez-Velez. These men and women bring diverse expertise and a commitment to excellence in craft, physical skill, and artistry to advance the expectations and outcomes of modern dance.

Dr. Phillip Powell will be the guest artist for the 44th annual Dr. Sharon Edwards Piano Festival. A professor of music teaching piano and piano pedagogy at Coastal Carolina University, he has appeared as soloist with the SC Symphony Orchestra and has performed many times with the Long Bay Symphony, playing concerto repertoire ranging from Mozart to Gershwin. Dr. Powell has also served as collaborative pianist at Kennedy Music Center and locally he has formed Coastal Chamber Players.

The Gold Key winners of the K-12 Students Art Exhibition at Celebrate the Arts, NC’s largest student arts festival will be on display at SCC, in the Wyche Gallery, beginning April 2 and running through April 30, 2023. The Wyche Gallery is located on the second floor of the A building on the campus of SCC.
