Emergency Medical Services

Program Description

SCC is proud to provide training to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Providers, Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics. Training in the initial classes, as well as continuing education, is offered.

Prerequisites:

17 years old
Placement test requirement for Basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the eleventh-grade level

Prerequisites:

18 years old
High school Diploma/Equivalency
Successful completion of college-level English or successful completion, within the previous 12 months, of an entrance exam placing the individual into college-level English without corequisite courses.
Successful completion of college-level Math or successful completion, within the previous 12 months, of an entrance exam placing the individual into college-level Math without corequisite courses.
Possession of a valid and active North Carolina EMT Credential, NREMT or other states EMS Credential.

Paramedic Academy

Pre-requisites:

18 years old.
High school Diploma/Equivalency
Successful completion of college-level English or successful completion, within the previous 12 months, of an entrance exam placing the individual into college-level English without corequisite courses.
Successful completion of college-level Math or successful completion, within the previous 12 months, of an entrance exam placing the individual into college-level Math without corequisite courses.
Possession of a valid and active North Carolina EMT Credential, NREMT or other states EMS Credential.

Corequisites: Anatomy and Physiology requirements must be met before the end of the Paramedic program.

Students will be required to provide documentation of completed immunizations (as required by clinical facilities).

The class starts on February 28. Students must pre-register by February 24.

$180 for each class/semester taken. (Paramedic is approximately 4-5 semesters. AEMT and Paramedic students are also required to register for Field Internship/Clinical class)

Program Licensure Disclosure – CPR, ACLS, PALS

The AHA’s BLS Provider Course reflects science and education from the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

ACLS is an advanced, Instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

This classroom, Instructor-led course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
