The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP enhances the lives of adults age 55 and older by providing meaningful volunteer opportunities that address a wide range of community needs. As part of the National Senior Service Corps, the program is primarily funded by the U.S. federal government and locally by Southeastern Community College and the Columbus County Commissioners.
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP has served Columbus County since 1973. More than 175 volunteers serve with public and private nonprofit agencies and organizations, including civic clubs. Each year, volunteers contribute more than 27,500 hours of service to communities across Columbus County.
Volunteers serve in a variety of areas, including schools, nutrition sites, and health care. They visit and uplift individuals in residential care facilities and provide outreach to homebound seniors.
Volunteers determine how much time they give and which assignments they accept. Columbus County is fortunate to have one of approximately 700 local programs nationwide and one of just 17 in North Carolina.
