Family and Medical Leave

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will allow employees to take up to 12 weeks of leave time per year for reasonable family and medical needs. The FMLA is intended to protect employees and allow them to balance work and family life more effectively while accommodating the legitimate interests of the college.  When the need for leave is foreseeable, 30 days’ advance notice is required to allow scheduling of work. When the need to take leave is not foreseeable, the employee must give verbal notice to his immediate supervisor within two (2) business days of learning of the need to take leave. Supervisors will report absences of three (3) days or more to the human resources office so appropriate documentation may be initiated.
