History of the Foundation
Founded in 1968, the Southeastern Community College (SCC) Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes and encourages support of Southeastern Community College. Directors of the SCC Foundation solicit funds through an annual drive and special events such as a dinner theatre and golf tournament. Gifts received are used for student financial aid and student activities, faculty and staff special projects and professional development, the visual and performing arts, investments, and other special needs of the college.
Donors make annual gifts of cash to help meet ongoing student needs; memorial and honor gifts as a tribute to someone special; planned gifts from capital assets; special gifts such as endowed scholarships; and non-cash gifts of real estate, stocks and equipment.
Who Will Benefit
You Benefit
Hundreds of generous and caring donors helped assure a promising future for Columbus County citizens last year. As you join them, you can feel pride in knowing that you are helping to change lives, put hope within reach, and make independence and security a possibility for SCC students.
Students Benefit
In 2008-2009, aid from the SCC Foundation helped leverage more than $4,321247 in federal grants, loans, and work programs for SCC students. Students received $164,613 in financial assistance from the SCC Foundation. Educational, social and cultural activities helped enrich student lives, while the Ambassador Program helps to develop valuable leadership skills.
Faculty and Staff Benefit
Interest free computer loans are offered allowing employees to maintain computer skills. Four hundred and ninety-one loans totaling $792,300 have been made since the beginning of the program in 1989. Professional development opportunities are offered to all faculty and staff through the Foundation's Professional Development grant. Mini-grants are awarded to fund innovative educational projects for students initiated by faculty and staff.
The Clare R. Bailey Loan Fund was established at Southeastern Community College in 1969 by the late Clare R. Bailey as a memorial to his wife Elizabeth Smith Bailey and his parents, Elroy B. Bailey and Myrtle Clark Bailey. As a result of the increased availability of financial aid grants, the Loan Fund has been inactive during recent years. For that reason, Myrtle Edna Bailey Lasley and Virginia Bailey Harris, daughters of the late Clare R. Bailey in February 2008 proposed that the purpose of the loan fund be converted to one that will serve a greater need and enhance the quality of education at the college. With an additional contribution from Myrtle Edna and her husband Jim Lasley the Clare R. Bailey Family Endowment has been named. The purpose of the endowment shall be to encourage professional development among faculty members in the employ of SCC. The C.R. Bailey Development Grant award will be made annually in July. Details of this award and the application process will be provided through the Institutional Advancement Office to interested applicants.
