Why We Need
You We believe that adults in southeastern
North Carolina should have every chance to develop their abilities
to the fullest. They need educational, economic, social
and cultural opportunities to help them accomplish their goals
and achieve a bright future. Southeastern Community College
is here to provide these programs and services, but tax dollars
are not sufficient to pay for them. The SCC Foundation is
looking for partners to help provide annual support and build
an endowment for the future. What
We Do
Since 1968, directors of the Southeastern Community
College (SCC) Foundation have asked for and accepted gifts from
individuals and businesses on behalf of the college. The
SCC Foundation uses the gifts for student financial aid and
student activities, faculty and staff special projects and professional
development, the visual and performing arts, investments, and
other special needs of the college.
How
Students Benefit
|
-
|
In 2008-2009, aid from the SCC Foundation helped leverage
more than $4,321247 in federal grants, loans, and work programs
for SCC students. Students received $164,613 in financial
assistance from the SCC Foundation. |
|
-
|
Educational, social and cultural activities
helped enrich student lives. The Ambassador Program
helps to develop valuable leadership skills. |
How
Faculty and Staff Benefit
| - |
Interest free computer loans are offered
allowing employees to maintain computer skills. Four
hundred and ninety-one loans totaling $792,300 have been made since
the beginning of the program in 1989. |
| - |
Professional development opportunities are
offered to all faculty and staff through the Foundation's
Professional Development grant. |

The C.R. Bailey Development Grant
(award to be made to eligible faculty beginning 2009) The
Clare R. Bailey Loan Fund was established at Southeastern
Community College in 1969 by the late Clare R. Bailey as
a memorial to his wife Elizabeth Smith Bailey and his parents,
Elroy B. Bailey and Myrtle Clark Bailey. As a result of
the increased availability of financial aid grants, the
Loan Fund has been inactive during recent years. For that
reason, Myrtle Edna Bailey Lasley and Virginia Bailey Harris,
daughters of the late Clare R. Bailey in February 2008 proposed
that the purpose of the loan fund be converted to one that
will serve a greater need and enhance the quality of education
at the college. With an additional contribution from Myrtle
Edna and her husband Jim Lasley the Clare R. Bailey Family
Endowment has been named. The purpose of the endowment shall
be to encourage professional development among faculty members
in the employ of SCC. The C.R. Bailey Development Grant
award will be made annually in July. Details of this award
and the application process will be provided through the
Institutional Advancement Office to interested applicants. |

Mini-grants are awarded to fund innovative
educational projects for students initiated by faculty and
staff. |
How
The Community Benefits
|
-
|
The Richard F. Burkhardt Fine &
Performing Arts Series features internationally acclaimed
artists at affordable prices. |
|
-
|
SCC's Upstairs Gallery offers free exhibits
of artwork by area, national and international artists. |
What
You Can Do
We invite you to join us in supporting Southeastern Community
College with
|
-an annual gift of cash to help
meet ongoing student needs
-a gift to endow a chair
-a memorial or honor gift as a tribute to someone special
-a planned gift from your capital assets
-a special gift such as an endowed scholarship
-a non cash gift of real estate, stocks or equipment |
The following information provides
recommendations for categories and levels of giving to the SCC
Foundation.
|
Endowed Chair
The donor contributes an amount necessary to generate
earnings that would sustain an identified instructional
position for a twelve-month period. The minimum amount
to endow a chair is $675,000 based on the average faculty
salary and fringe benefits for the 2008-2009 fiscal year
and an investment rate of return of four percent. |
|
Endowed Scholarship
The donor contributes an amount necessary to generate
earnings that would pay tuition, fees and the cost of
books for two semesters. The minimum amount to endow a
scholarship for the 20010-20011 academic year is $30,000
based on a tuition rate of $50 per credit hour and an
investment rate of return of four percent. |
|
Other Endowments
The donor contributes an amount necessary to generate
earnings that would sustain an identified program. The
amount of the donation (principal) will depend upon the
cost of the activity or program to be endowed, but the
minimum recommended amount should be $10,000. Examples
of events or programs that could be endowed include performing
arts, visual arts, lectures, and campus building or improvement
projects. |
|
Funds Held for Endowment
The donor’s ultimate goal is to achieve endowment status
by making annual contributions until the desired level
of giving is reached. The recommended annual contribution
would be 20 percent of the desired endowment so that the
goal would be reached in five years. Annual contributions
might have to be increased to adjust for increases in
tuition or program costs. |
|
Annual Scholarship
The donor chooses not to endow a scholarship but commits
to funding a full scholarship (tuition, fees and books)
for a minimum of three to five years. The current cost
of an annual (two semesters) scholarship is approximately
$1,700. |
|
Annual Contribution (General)
The donor contributes to the Foundation during the annual
fund drive with the implied intention of making an annual
contribution. The gift is not designated for any specific
purpose, and no minimum amount is required. |
|
SCC Employee Contributions
SCC employees may make an annual gift or be enrolled
in a payroll deduction plan. |
|
Special Contribution (General)
The donor makes a memorial gift in memory of a loved one
or in honor of an individual to commemorate a special
event or occasion. There is no minimum amount required.
The gift is outside of the annual fund drive and there
is no expectation regarding future donations. The family
of the deceased is notified when a memorial gift is given.
the individual being honored will receive a recognition
card from the Foundation office |
|
Designated Gifts
The donor makes a gift that is restricted for use by a
specific program or activity. No minimum amount is required
if the gift is to a program or activity with an established
account. If the gift would require establishment of a
new account, a minimum gift of $500 is recommended. The
gift is outside of the annual fund drive and there is
no expectation regarding future donations. |
You may designate a gift for a special purpose or let the
Foundation use it where it is needed most.
The SCC Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation.
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU MAKE POSSIBLE! |
