Southeastern Early College High School is a public high school that opened on the campus of Southeastern Community College in August 2006. Columbus County Schools, Whiteville City Schools, and Southeastern Community College worked together to create this new school to serve grades 9 through 12. Fifty five freshmen entered the program in 2006, and fifty five more are expected to start this fall.

Early College

Early college high schools are small, personalized, academically rigorous schools that blend high school and college into a coherent educational program. They are designed so that all students can achieve two years of college credit while earning a high school diploma (within four to five years of entering 9th grade). Tuition for courses, textbooks, and transportation will be provided at no cost to the student.

The Student

Many students thrive in today’s large settings, but many do not. Early college high schools serve the developmental and intellectual needs of young people that are academically bright but may have disengaged academically for a number of reasons. With the help of supportive instructors, mentors, and staff, each student makes a commitment to success.

Learning takes places in a personalized environment in which rigorous work is demanded and supported. Students are rewarded for hard work with the opportunity to accelerate and to earn two years of college credit without charge.
