Definition
Demonstrate involvement in the community through service learning and/or community engagement activities. Community refers to both the college community and the larger community the college is a part of. Service learning refers to learning in specific classes tied to activities involving working within a specific environment within the larger community. Engagement in community activities refers to attending those activities.
When possible, instructors will require engagement activities to relate to the course in which they are assessed. Instructors will normally suggest activities which will meet their requirements.
Engagement asks students to demonstrate the following:
- involvement in the community through service learning and/or community engagement.
- the application of classroom theory to an experience working with a group or organization and the analysis of that experience for meeting class learning outcomes.
- engagement in community activities requires some form of written verification.
