Purpose

The mission of the Forest Management Technology program is to provide learning experiences for those preparing for occupations as forest technician or a geographic information systems technicians upon graduation and for those desiring to transfer to the North Carolina State University forestry bachelor's degree program through an articulation agreement.


Course Requirements

The Forest Management Technology curriculum is designed to help students acquire the technical knowledge, understanding, and abilities essential in developing, conserving, and utilizing forest resources. Students will spend much of their time applying the fundamental knowledge and skills learned in class to field training situations and exercises.

Graduates of the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program may choose to transfer some credits to selected colleges and universities for further study and/or pursue employment opportunities.

Certificate programs train men and women for immediate employment and may be completed in as few as one or two semesters on a full-time or part-time basis.

Students should also consult with their advisors to help plan a program of study to complete program course work and fulfill the minimum general education competency requirements that must be met prior to graduation.


What can graduates expect to achieve with a Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in GIS/GPS or Forest Management Technology?

Graduates should be qualified for positions as forest technicians with federal, state, and private forestry enterprises. Graduates will have competencies in forest protection, forest management, and forest procurement and in performing various technical tasks related to forestry.
