DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS
The developmental mathematics education program at Southeastern Community College is designed to help students achieve academic success by developing or enhancing mathematics skills. These skills are necessary for success in college-level coursework. Student placement into developmental classes is based upon the Accuplacer Assessment, taken prior to enrollment in the college.

In which college courses will mathematic skills be most essential?
Almost all degrees or diplomas offered at SCC require some level of mathematics to be completed as part of their course of study. Students who develop strong fundamental mathematical skills are better prepared to face the challenge of advanced college level mathematics.
Do I receive college credit for taking a developmental mathematics course?
While developmental mathematics courses do carry credit at SCC and many other community colleges, these classes do not count towards a degree, nor do they transfer to 4-year institutions. However, semester credit hours for developmental courses do count as part of a students course load for financial aid eligibility.
