The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate program is designed to help students develop the essential skills required for entry-level positions in law enforcement agencies.
This program utilizes State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; ethics and community relations.
To receive the certificate students must successfully complete and pass all units of study. Graduates must also pass the certification examination mandated by both the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, and the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission.
Students should consult with their advisors to help plan a program of study to complete program coursework and fulfill the minimum general education competency requirements that must be met prior to graduation.
The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate program is designed to help students develop the essential skills required for entry-level positions as law enforcement officers with state, county, and municipal governments as well as private agencies. Students who graduate from the BLET program may also receive up to 18 hours of college course credit to apply towards a Criminal Justice Associate Degree.
- Tuition fee is waived for those who are sponsored by any law enforcement agency in North Carolina.
