The mission of the Associate in Arts degree (A.A.) and diploma programs is to prepare and provide a general education for students who wish to continue their studies at a four-year institution, compete successfully in the job market, and adapt to rapid social and technological changes. These programs allow students to explore a variety of fields including psychology, philosophy, history, literature, physical science, life science, math, and statistics. This exposure to diverse subjects will help students develop a better understanding of their academic and career goals.
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree and Associate in Arts (A.A.) diploma programs require students to complete the 44 hours of general education coursework necessary to transfer to four year institutions. In addition, the A.A. degree requires an additional 21 hours of study, these courses may include art history and studio classes to promote a comprehensive view of the liberal arts with an appropriate balance of knowledge in the humanities, fine arts, mathematics, natural sciences, and social and behavioral sciences. Graduates may major in a variety of fields, choose to begin a career in business or industry, or undertake further specialized training.
Students should consult with their advisors to help plan a program of study to complete program course work and fulfill the minimum general education competency requirements that must be met prior to graduation.
