Southeastern Community College's Fine and Performing Arts Series announced its first performances in the fall of 1966. In 2002, the series was renamed the Richard F. Burkhardt Fine and Performing Arts Series in memory of Burkhardt for his leadership in the musical and cultural enrichment of the community. The series, funded by the SCC Foundation, Inc., strives to increase cultural arts opportunities for area citizens at affordable ticket prices. A wide variety of offerings includes theatre arts, music and dance performances. 



Advance tickets can be purchased by calling the SCC Foundation at (910) 642-7141, ext. 260 or 320. Tickets will also be available at the door. The Richard F. Burkhardt Fine and Performing Arts Series is made possible through the generous support of the SCC Foundation. Founded in 1968, the Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes and encourages support of Southeastern Community College.





Santana Flamenco

October 9    7:30 p.m.    SCC Auditorium

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, this four-member ensemble of artists, under the direction of Artistic Director Carlota Santana, presents an evening of flamenco music, song, and dance. Intense speed, sensual partnering, and stiletto movement are trademarks of Santana's artists, who are currently celebrating their 30th anniversary season.

Organist Daniel Russell

November 18    3 p.m.    Boys and Girls Home Chapel

Organist Daniel Russell, a former SCC student, returns to Columbus County for a performance at the stunning Boys and Girls Home Chapel at Lake Waccamaw. Russell, who earned a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music from East Carolina University and a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Houston, currently serves as the music intern at West End United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra

December 9    4 p.m.    Bowers Auditorium

Join the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra for a festive mix of music from Leonard Bernstein's popular West Side Story and selections from the Broadway blockbuster Les Miserables. Sing along to holiday favorites such as Silent Night, Joy to the World, and Jingle Bells.

Dr. Sharyn Edwards in Concert

January 25    7:30 p.m.    SCC Auditorium

Dr. Sharyn Edwards, SCC music instructor and internationally-renown pianist, will perform selections in commemoration of her 45th year in concert. Edwards has performed throughout the eastern United States and abroad. She made her New York debut in 1999 in Carnegie Hall and has recorded two CDs. She has performed as piano soloist with the Wilmington, Charlotte and Charleston Symphony Orchestras.

Beauty and the Beast

Adventure. Romance. Ancient curses. This award-winning musical has it all! Be transported to a magical time long, long ago, with the classic family favorite. All new songs lead us on Beauty’s journey from her home to the Beast’s castle. There she tries to save her father and discovers that the power of love can overcome even the beastliest of adversities.

The Dr. Sharyn Edwards Piano Festival and Competition opens with a performance by Steinway artist Mirian Conti, who enjoys a growing reputation as a musician whose performances combine technical brilliance with striking originality and artistic insight. A graduate of The Julliard School, Conti was selected as one of the “100 Outstanding Alumni” to celebrate.

8th Annual Honors Jazz Band Festival

In its eighth year, the Honors Jazz Band Festival is a highlight for high school musicians in Columbus County. On Thursday, April 18, area high school bands will compete and be judged. Outstanding students will be selected to perform in the honors jazz band concert on Saturday, April 20.
