Admissions Policy
Southeastern Community College maintains an open door admissions policy for all applicants. The College serves students regardless of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, gender, age or disability. Selective placement of individual students in the different programs of study within the College is determined by the admissions office, within the guidelines established by the State Board of Community Colleges and the North Carolina Community College System for each program of study and course offered. Any person who is at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate or its equivalent may be accepted by the College. High school students and home-schooled applicants 16 years of age or older may be admitted into credit and continuing education courses in accordance with the concurrent enrollment policies adopted by the State of North Carolina. Students under the age of 16 years may be admitted to an Early College High School program, Learn and Earn program or Huskins Bill program.
Admission to degree, diploma and select certificate programs require a high school diploma or the equivalent. Admission to the college does not imply immediate admission to the curriculum desired by the applicant, and admission to certain programs may have additional academic entrance requirements.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate honesty in the completion of all necessary forms. False information will be grounds for rejection or dismissal.
Use of Social Security Numbers
The College collects social security numbers from all applicants for admission to ensure accurate records for required federal and state reporting. The College protects and restricts access to this information.
Getting Started
New Students
- Complete and submit an application for admission to SCC. Applications can also be printed and submitted to: Southeastern Community College, Records Office, PO Box 151, Whiteville, NC 28742.
- Submit an official high school or GED transcript.
- Take the placement assessment in the Counseling Center located in the “A” Building. SAT or ACT scores may substitute.
- Update an application for admission to SCC. Applications can also be printed and submitted to: Southeastern Community College, Records Office, PO Box 151, Whiteville, NC 28742.
- Resubmit an official high school or GED transcript.
- The placement assessment may be required for some majors. Discuss your situation with an Admissions and Counseling staff member.
