Columbus County Volunteer Center

The mission of the Columbus County Volunteer Center is to provide a resource center for the coordination of volunteer programs and activities to improve the lives of the people in Columbus County. The Volunteer Center provides excellent opportunities for families to make a difference in their community. The Volunteer Center works with unaffiliated volunteers, Boy Scouts seeking Eagle projects, students enhancing their resumes, and SCC service-learning students.

SCC offers a wide array of continuing education courses, seminars and workshops for individuals who need to retrain and update themselves in a vocational area or desire instruction enabling them to grow in basic knowledge and improve in home and community life.

Early Childhood Education Lab

The SCC Early Childhood Education Lab maintains a five-star rated childcare license from the Division of Child Development. The lab is available to all students, College employees, and surrounding community residents and serves children 3-5 years of age. The preschool serves as a lab component of the instructional program for students in the SCC Early Childhood Education Program, as well as other programs at Southeastern.

SCC has a comprehensive television production studio, EDU-Cable, that works to promote academic, industry and community programs and opportunities to benefit the Columbus County community as well as SCC students, faculty and staff.

Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search serves 850 students in Columbus County and Whiteville City Schools. Free supportive services include tutoring and mentoring; personal, career, academic, and financial literacy counseling; exposure to college campuses and cultural enrichment activities; and assistance with college entrance exam preparation, financial aid and college admissions applications.

Region 4 Childcare Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Services is a collaboration of childcare agencies serving children and families in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender and Sampson Counties in North Carolina.

CCR&R Core services include: consumer education and referral, professional development, technical assistance, data collection, analysis and dissemination, and public awareness.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

RSVP volunteers work in a variety of areas, including childcare, crime prevention, literacy, nutrition, and health care. They provide food and clothes to the needy, teach children to read, deliver hot meals to seniors, or bring smiles to hospital or rest home patients. The volunteer determines how much time to give and to which assignments. The volunteers are able to give back to the community their time and talents. Columbus County is fortunate to have one of the 700 local programs nation wide, and one of the 17 in NC.
